Elden Ring Review: Dark Souls goes open world to stunning effect February 25, 2022by Martin 6 Elden Ring is a game that needs little introduction - it's the most anticipated game since CD Projekt Red. Cyberpunk 2077 , a sign of the evolution of the legendary developer from the well-worn but irresistible formula of Software, with the added entry (albeit subtle, not apparently a permanent horn) of Game of Thrones author George RR Martin. Unlike CD Projekt Red's dystopian role-player, however, Elden Ring lives up to the hype with a casual, almost insulting ease. The main reason for this is the developer Elden Ring of Software, who wisely refused to stray far from his comfort zone. Yes, the game has been described as "like" Dark Souls meets Zelda, and you can understand why, given that it has a huge open world map that you can run around on the back of a spectral horse. But such a statement is lazy: it's a decent, challenging, scary, dark-in-tone Souls game that has a lot in common with the new ones.
Zelda games . In order for Elden Ring to be in any way like a C Level Executive List Zelda game, Az Software would have to give up its status as a complete no-compromise merchant. Instead, the Japanese developer's refusal to stray from its vision of what video games should be is more evident than ever in Elden Ring. This means that, for example, you shouldn't expect it to have anything that even resembles a traditional plot line. While George RR Martin's involvement brought some welcome variety to the (still typically gnomish) characters, it's the flavors of this game world that are a bit different - certainly significantly less gothic and more colorful than previous From Software games. In terms of the feel of the game world, Elden Ring takes a small step towards the likes of Skyrim rather than Zelda, but it still avoids traditional character-driven side missions.
Choose your class wisely There are a lot of things to do before you start playing Elden Ring. Newbies will love the comprehensive character creation system, although once you start playing, your efforts on this front will soon be under armor. But it's important to choose your character class carefully. As usual for an From Software game, Elden Ring doesn't advise you of this, despite the inclusion of amazing exotic classes like Astrologer, Prisoner, Confessor and Wretch. Depending on your preferred style, you'll need to be careful - for example, playing as a Tramp means you won't be able to cast spells properly. Demon's Souls Review: The Perfect Return of the Pitch Once you're satisfied with your character, you'll be presented with a mini-boss battle in typical fashion, which is almost impossible to win in your basic configuration.
